About Ryan Babel:
Ryan Babel was born in Amsterdam in 1986 and recently has come to the attention of European football commentators for his impressive performances on the pitch. Babel is a natural forward and can play as an out and out striker or on the left wing and this versatility is an added weapon to his armoury. Babel is widely considered as one of the up and coming young stars of European football.
Babel developed a keen ability for the game of football during his early years and in 1997 he attended a youth selection day being held at Dutch club Ajax only to be turned away disappointed. However, this set back only inspired Babel further and a year later he succeeded in being taken on Ajax. Babel worked his way through the ranks at Ajax impressing with strong performances and he signed his first professional contract with the club in 2004.
Babel made his debut for the Ajax first team in 2004 but he struggled to impose himself as a firm fixture in the team and he was not a regular player. However, Babel persevered at Ajax and signed a new contract in 2005 and thus began to inch his way into the first team on a regular basis. Babel secured three Dutch Super Cup medals with Ajax defeating PSV Eindhoven and AZ in the respective finals. Babel pledged his future to the club signing a three year deal in February 2007 amid speculation Arsenal and Newcastle United were interested in his signature.
Despite signing a new contract with Ajax Babel signed for English Premier club Liverpool in July 2007 and has impressed with his performances and creative edge.
Babel plays for the Dutch national side and he completed in the 2005 FIFA U-20 World Cup netting two goals helping Holland to reach the Quarter-Finals only to be defeated by Nigeria. Having proven that he could compete at the highest levels Babel was drafted into the Dutch squad by Marco van Basten for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. One thing is for certain and that is that Babel has a long and promising career in front of him.
