About Robin van Persie:
Robin van Persie was born in 1983 and he displayed a natural talent for the game of football from an early age. His ability and talent led him to be noticed by some Dutch clubs and van Persie thus began his youth career at Dutch club Excelsior Rotterdam. However, due to some impressive performances van Persie was soon noticed by larger clubs and he was snapped up by Feyenoord. At Feyenoord van Persie developed his already prevalent qualities and he was a key member of the squad that defeated Borussia Dortmund in the 2002 UEFA Cup Final.
Nothing seemed to be able to stop the flourishing career of van Persie until he was hit with a back injury during the summer of 2002 and his future was suddenly uncertain. However, van Persie set himself on the road to recovery and was back playing football for the start of the 2002-03 season. Despite impressing with his creative flair and accurate finishing van Persie was unhappy at Feyenoord unable to hold down a regular place in the first team in part due to a disagreement with then manager Bert van Marwijk.
Unhappy and languishing on the sidelines at Feyenoord van Persie was targeted by many clubs such as PSV Eindhoven, Werder Bremen and Sevilla but he decided to sign for English Premier League side Arsenal. Brought in as a natural replacement for Dennis Bergkamp, van Persie made his debut for Arsenal in August 2004. Van Persie experienced teething problems at the club early on but he redoubled his efforts in training displaying resilience and was rewarded making it into the first team when star striker Thierry Henry was out injured.
Playing in the first team as a regular van Persie flourished and his deadly shooting ability brought numerous goals to Arsenal’s league campaign impressing manager Arsene Wenger. Recently, van Persie has shouldered the responsibility of being Arsenal’s main striker with ease following the departure of Thierry Henry to Barcelona in summer 2007 and looks impressive leading from the front.
Robin van Persie plays his international football for the Dutch national team and Dutch Coach Marco van Basten had no hesitation in selecting him for the 2006 FIFA World Cup Finals due no doubt to his deadly instinct in front of goal.
