About Jozy Altidore:
Born to Haitian parents in the United States of America, Jozy Altidore was picked up in 17th position by Red Bull New York in the 2006 MLS Super Draft but continued with his high school education in Florida until making his Red Bull debut as a substitute against DC United in August 2006. Less than a month later he scored his first professional goal aged only 16 against Columbus Crew.
Altidore's record breaking season continued with him becoming the youngest player to score in the MLS play-offs and then the youngest player to start a game in the MLS play-offs as Red Bull New York crashed out of the Eastern Conference Semi Finals Series to DC United in 2006.
Jozy's international career began with the US Under 17 side where he played in the 2005 U-17 World Championship and for the US Under 20s who he represented at the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup, finishing up the United States' highest scorer with four goals. His full international debut came as a substitute for the United States against South Africa in November 2007, only three days after he turned 18 years of age. Altidore's first senior international goal came on his first start for the senior side in February 2008 against Mexico in a friendly game in Houston, Texas.
His goalscoring exploits and powerful physique attracted the attention of several big European clubs including Spanish giants Real Madrid but it was Spanish club Villareal who finally secured the young striker's signature for an MLS record transfer fee of 10 million Euros in the summer of 2008.
