About Dirk Kuyt:
Dirk Kuyt, born in 1980, is a strong imposing striker who has proven himself at the highest level of European football competing in both the Dutch and English football Leagues. Kuyt began playing football at the tender of five for a local team and as he grew older he developed into a strong forward with a high work ethic. Kuyt’s strong performances attracted the interest of Eredividie side FC Utrecht and he signed for them in 1998 aged just eighteen.
At FC Utrecht Kuyt was soon a member of the first team playing on the wing. However, in the 2002-03 season a new manager was installed at Utrecht and Kuyt received a chance to establish himself in the striker’s role. Kuyt flourished in his preferred position netting twenty goals that season and helping Utrecht to lift the Dutch Cup being named man of the match in the final. At the end of the season Kuyt moved to fellow Dutch side Feyenoord Rotterdam.
At Feyenoord Kuyt continued to impress becoming a prolific goalscorer highly regarded by the club and the fans. However, Kuyt had attracted the interest from Spurs and Liverpool but no transfer materialised and he was instead handed the captain’s armband at Feyenoord in a move to keep him at the club. Despite his success at Feyenoord rumours of a transfer continued to surround Kuyt and he finally signed for Liverpool in August 2006.
At Liverpool Kuyt immediately extended his influence over the English game quickly breaking into his goal scoring stride. Kuyt is a key member of the Liverpool team and is quickly establishing himself as a fan’s favourite. At Liverpool Kuyt has gained invaluable experience in Europe and has proven himself at the highest level scoring a goal in Liverpool’s 2007 Champion’s League final defeat against AC Milan.
Kuyt plays his international football for the Dutch national football team having made his debut under Marco van Basten against Liechtenstein in 2004. Since his debut Kuyt has become a permanent member of the Dutch squad and was a participant in the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
